Koro Field Top Maker

The KORO FIELD TOPMAKER is mainly used to quickly remove the top layer of a sports field to a depth of up to 50mm (2 inches) followed by turfing or seeding to re-establish a brand new grass playing surface over the shortest possible period of time. Because the KORO Field Top Maker (FTM) can achieve this process so successfully, it has not only become an integral part of renovation for many clubs, but the term "Koroing" has become a generic term in British turfcare language. The Koro Field Top Maker is very effective for the completeremoval of old worn out and weed infested turf; in practice it removes all surface vegetation, thatch and some soil, whilst also levelling (like a wood plane) the surface and depositing the debris into a trailer driving parallel to the machine via an elevator. Koroing is an excellent way to deal with severe thatch problems and also to correct minor discrepancies in levels. It is important to note though, that this process will remove all plant growth from the surface and so requires an extensive over-seeding or turfing afterwards.

However, when set at shallow depth for “fraise mowing” it only removes the top layer along with thatch, weeds and rogue grasses whilst leaving main root structure intact, effectively a form of mechanical weed control. This process is termed “fraise mowing” and is used to remove organic debris and shallow rooted Poa annua. This method leaves the perennial ryegrass roots & crown intact on winter sports pitches and cricket facilities (the majority of sports turf outside of golf in the UK are predominantly perennial ryegrass). The perennial ryegrass then re-establishes with a much reduced amount of Poa and no thatch. The resulting  debris is deposited into trailers via a conveyor system. Fraize mowing is generally also considered as the easy option to remove a small amount of thatch (few mm).

Basically the two above methods follow the same process, but the machine is set to different depths foreach mode of operation.

The Koro Field Top Maker is superb when fitted with its scarifying reel attachment. It can treat fine turf at spacing of 20mm or 40mm, using 1.5mm or 3mm carbide tipped blades simultaneously removing material directly into a trailer alongside for operational efficiency.

Depth of operation of the Koro is easily adjusted via screw jacks on each roller, from 1-50mm. A mid-mounted anti-scalp roller fitted to the machine which allows the implement to float over undulations. The Koro Field Topmaker has proven itself not only on Football/Rugby pitches but also for Cricket applications and is ideal to level saddles and uneven squares to create an ideal playing surface.
